The basics.

What is Mischief & Makers Camp?

A weekend creative retreat on Vashon Island where you'll make things with your hands, eat chef-prepared seasonal meals at a long table, and remember what it feels like to have an unstructured afternoon. It's part craft workshop, part culinary retreat, part camp for grown-ups. A table set for 32.

When and where is it?

August 7-9, 2026 at Iola Gardens on Vashon Island, Washington. Vashon is a 20-minute ferry ride from West Seattle (Fauntleroy terminal), a 10-minute ride from Point Defiance in Tacoma or 15 minutes from Southworth in Kitsap County.

How many people attend?

We cap every camp at 32 guests. The intimacy is the whole point. Everyone knows everyone's name by Saturday morning.

Who is this for?

Grown-ups who used to make things and stopped. People who want a weekend that feels like an exhale. You don't need to be "creative" or "artsy" — you just need to want to sit at a table, try something new, and eat really well. Most guests come alone.

The making.

What if I've never done any of these crafts?

That's the whole point. Every workshop is designed for beginners. You'll leave with something you made, and you'll be proud of it.

What workshops are offered?

This year's workshops include printmaking, jewelry making, and textile art — all taught by working artists. See all the details on the Makers and Menu page. All materials are provided.

Do I get to keep what I make?

Absolutely. Everything you create is yours to take home. That's kind of the whole idea.

What if I want to skip a workshop and just relax?

You're an adult at camp. There's no attendance sheet. Wander the garden, sit in the sauna, read in a hammock, nap. The unstructured hours are part of the experience.

The food.

What about dietary restrictions?

Chef Heidi has been accommodating every allergy and preference for fifteen years. Gluten-free, vegan, nut-free, dairy-free — just tell us when you book. We'll feed you well. We promise.

What meals are included?

All of them. Friday dinner through Sunday brunch. Plus coffee that's always on, and snacks throughout the day. The only thing not included is whatever you buy in Vashon town on your way through.

Who's cooking?

Heidi Finley, founder of Maven Meals. She's spent fifteen years feeding people food that actually tastes like somewhere — seasonal, Pacific Northwest, and made with the same care as every craft project at camp.

Tickets & logistics.

What's included in every ticket?

All workshops and materials, all meals from Friday dinner through Sunday brunch, campfire, coffee that's always on, access to the 10-person cedar sauna, and full run of the grounds. The only difference between ticket tiers is where you sleep.

What are the ticket options?

Tent camping (bring your own bedding), The Coop (king bed with sofa), Queen Room with shared bath, King Room with shared bath, King Room with private bath and soaking tub, Day Camper (no overnight — you sleep elsewhere), and Add a Guest to My Room (for friends sharing a booked room).

Can I share a room with a friend?

Yes. One person books the room, and the other purchases an "Add a Guest to My Room" ticket. We'll match you up on our end.

What's the refund policy?

Full refund up to 30 days before camp. 50% refund 15–30 days before. No refund within 14 days, but you can transfer your ticket to someone else at any time — and we'll help you find them.

Getting there.

How do I get to Vashon Island?

By ferry. Vashon is a 20-minute ride from Fauntleroy in West Seattle, a 10-minute ferry ride from Point Defiance in Tacoma, or 15 minutes from Southworth in Kitsap County. No bridge, no shortcut. The ferry is part of the experience — it's the moment the weekend starts.

Can I drive my car onto the ferry?

Yes. The ferry from Fauntleroy takes vehicles (reservations recommended in summer). There's parking at Iola Gardens. You can also walk on and we'll share shuttle/ride details closer to camp.

What should I bring?

Layers — island evenings are cool even in July. A headlamp if you're camping. Your favorite mug. Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting clay on. A book for reading in the meadow. The willingness to be bad at something new. We'll send a full packing list after you book.

What about accessibility?

The making and gathering areas at Iola Gardens are on flat terrain with ADA parking available. If you have specific accessibility needs, email us at hello@mischiefandmakerscamp.com and we'll make sure you're taken care of.

One more thing.

Who is Pip?

Pip is the unofficial mascot, official spirit animal, and full-time freeloader of Mischief & Makers Camp. He's a raccoon. He was here before us. He strongly endorses the bread. If he gets into your snacks, that's good luck.
